ERASMUS+ YOUTH EXСHANGE

Art allows youth to challenge their selves and go beyond the boundaries. This means that art can be used as a way for us to challenge our current beliefs, spark new ideas, or generate critical thinking.

Art can inspire youth, by creating alternative visions for the future which makes us elicit new action. Art allows youth to express themselves, by sharing their stories and experiences and allowing others to gain new insights. Moreover, Art is a universal language, youth doesn't need or any kind of prior experience to create, participate in, or be moved by art.

Art and social inclusion became the main topics of Erasmus+ Youth Exchange which took place in Kyiv this August. Young people from Ukraine, Lithuania, Armenia, Poland, Turkey and Georgia spent a week together debating about the migrant and refugees crisis their countries faced with.

As participants said "The opportunities to talk about differences and similarities gave a chance to find solutions and start work together for the peace and intercultural friendship"

On the way to Ukrainian capital
We are there soon! See you all and let's get the party started!

DAY 1
Exploring the cultures
The first day of the project, which takes place in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, was very productive for all participants. To get acquainted, the team leader of Georgia prepared several activities: icebreakers, energizers, human bingo and name games.

The youth exchange "Sharing Palette of Inclusion" starts with acquaintance as a personal and most important acquaintance with the culture, history of each of the 6 participating countries (Armenia, Georgia, Lithuania, Poland, Turkey and Ukraine).
Participants explored what unites us and also differs between all of us, presented the culture and tradition of their countries. Through the posters, each team presented their cultural characteristics and national identifiers. Also, with this method of drawing, we have discussed stereotypes and destroyed a great number of them.
And at the end of the extraordinary day, an intercultural night was held, where everyone could learn more about each country, its features, history, how the national costume looks, and so on. Participants have a lot of fun during the evening, tasting national dishes, drinks, and also taught each other traditional dances and games.

DAY 2
What are yours stereotypes about?
On the second day of the project, we mainly discussed about the topics of "portraits of migrants", "stereotypes", and "types of conflicts". We started the morning session which was about the portraits of migrants, we prepared short plays in relation to refugees, showing the challenges, discriminations and prejudices they are exposed to.
After that, we talked about stereotypes and each of us received a "label" such as migrants women, ex-prisoner. Then we planed compaigns for women, animal, children and migrant rights with this labels we had. In the afternoon, we discussed about 7 different kinds of conflicts and gave examples from our daily lives experiences regarding these conflicts. İn the closing part, we learned about compromise and collaboration. It was a highly productive day with full of fun!

DAY 3
Everything is getting better with the team
After 2 very interactive and fruitful working days, "Shaping Palette of Inclusion" exchange project participants started morning with outdoor activities near the beautiful lake nearby, where had a opportunity to feel in the shoes of Migrants and refugees.

Participants given different roles and according the questions prepared in advance, they were moving step forward. Participants had a chance to explore more about different roles migrants and refugees facing in different society and countries. It helped us to feel empathy towards the people facing diverse challenges in their life for survival and living in better world.
Before the afternoon sessions participants had a chance to refresh all the participants names once again, with very joyful "blanket game". After great morning activities, it lead us to develop "Community Map", to understand better, the places and areas in our surroundings, which is positive and welcomed for the migrants in our countries.

We have reflected on the areas, where attitude towards the migrants and refugees are not so positive and welcomed. Institutions and places with no access in our communities.
Community Maps presented by the national groups helped us to understand global situation in different countries with much smaller scale. It also helps to travel from one location to another, organize information...

A street map showed us roads of opportunities in different areas in our home countries. It was easy to identify common challenges and issues, reflected on a good practices, which helps migrants and refugees to be more inclusive in local communities.

DAY 4
It`s all about Kyiv
Over the past two years, more than a hundred large-scale art objects have appeared in Kyiv. This is mainly murals - huge graffiti that adorn the firewalls of buildings. Artists from Ukraine, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Canada and Portugal diluted the urban landscape with their visual discussions of freedom and war, the environment and the people's struggle for a better life.

Because of the main topics of our YE - art and migration - we have decided to see Kyiv through the stories on the cities walls.

The group of participants have been split to three teams and received their rout around Kyiv. All the stops were dedicated to some mural, street art or historical monument. On the each stage of the rout teams had tasks to do: to take a photo, to do an acrobatical performance, to sing and filmt it!

Hopefully all the team-members were talented and crazy enought to make it all and have lots of fun in the process!

Kyiv is a place about freedom and choice, where energy is in full swing and it is almost impossible to stay away from the million events that fill the city with life. There is a place for long quiet walks and high-profile parties, old quarters and flowering parks, progressive youth and grandmothers with cakes near the metro. It`s easy to feel local in Kyiv, even though it is a city of contrasts.
During the long day, we visited 15 murals, saw dozens of street art, discover the main touristic attractions, entered the museum of modern art, tasted the best coffee, national dishes and drinks and then we went to explore Kyiv nightlife ... :)

DAY 5
Art is the answer
It's fun to play team games, get to know each other, exchange teamwork skills, but it's also time to move on to the main tasks. On day 5 we were split into teams and what is interesting is that we had the opportunity to be in a group that fits our preferences.

It is time to present to the public in the language of art the most important issues that our countries and we are facing. And often we are indifferent to it.

DAY 6
On the 6th day of the exchange different art groups presented their work about the topic of refugees and migrants. There were 4 types of interpretations: photos, a video, live performance and a poster.

The projects will be made into a campaign bringing awareness about the different problems migrants and refugees face and is a representation of the work that has been done during the past 5 days.
Photo collage team
Shaping Pallete of Inclusion is the project aiming to eliminate borders through art. So this is a collage of street art in Kiev. Because art doesn't speak any certain language. Art united the humanity.
Immigrant create new jobs by forming new businesses, buying homes and spending their incomes in the related country.

Migrants don't spread to host populations, though migrants themselves are often at higher risk of illness because of poor living conditions.

There are good people as well as bad people all over the world. Violence and crime cannot be defined by nation.

Politic, economic and religious problems lead to future anxiety and people want to move to the 'social state' countries to have equal rights with everyone.

Language is not the only way to communicate. There are people who can understand each other even not speaking.

People have their life in danger. They just want to have a 'normal life'.

When we look back to history we can all see a nation can be formed by different backgrounds. We are all humans. We have no difference.

Drawing team
we hear about it all the time syrian refugees fighting to come across the ocean for safty outside of their war-filled country.

stories of how large numbers despite the large danger that they are faced with refugees find the risk of stying in their country greater than the risk of dying trying to get to a safer place these people are not only faced with having to face hardship trying to get out of their countries but also the hard process of getting legally accepted into a new country many countries have welcomed in thousand of syrian refugees already
